Major Command Game Review
This Major Command Game Review is kindly provided by our independent game reviewers. MajorCommand.com is a website that gives players the opportunity to play risk online for free. Major Command perhaps deserves the biggest commendations for it’s great wiki and online video tutorials that help to explain the basics to new players. If you feel like settling in to the MajorCommand risk game, there is a large community to get involved with. Paying members can get access to online tournaments, and there is a broad range of competitive and casual experiences.
Signing up is pretty easy. You can click the join up button at the top right of the screen, and register with your email address. By default, you’ll be given a free membership. Without paying, you’ll be given access to practically every game within the “games” tab. Whilst there is a limit to the amount of games you can play at a single time, and tournaments are out of your reach, Major Command offers a lot for free. Feel free to post your own Major Command Review as a user.
Play Risk for free, forever.
The free option which is used by the majority of players can give you days, if not years, of endless online Risk gaming enjoyment, more dedicated players have some advanced options to choose from. MajorCommand has the cheapest subscription of all online Risk websites starting at only $4.95 for a six month silver membership. It removes your 4 simultaneous game limitation and gives you access to tournaments. Upgrading to the Gold package at $9.95 for six months, which is still half the price of other sites, rewards you with the same benefits as the first package, but you’ll also get a range of other community, profile and in-game benefits. Perhaps the most interesting feature is fixed force, which removes the luck of the dice found within the standard game on MajorCommand.
Game Maps: Quality over Quantity.
There is a pretty large map pool available for MajorCommand games, although if you plan to stay around for a long time, it is totally possible you’ll start to remember each map like the back of your hand. However, the Maps are so well designed, and so balanced in terms of commands and regions, that the enjoyment of gameplay only improves over time. You will find yourself wanting to play the same map time and time again because each time you learn the different nuances and adjust your strategy to improve your skill. The re-play value of the MajorCommand maps are without doubt the highest of all the online Risk websites we’ve tried. Other websites, such as Conquer Club and Warlight, may have a much larger map offering, but the quality is poor and you become bored of them quickly.
Lots of Game Options
When searching for a new game, you can choose between real time games or casual games that take place over a few days. Finding a game is a little more difficult than other online strategy websites, simply because every game has to be hosted by a player.
Whilst this means that finding the perfect game on your favorite map may take a little longer than usual, players are given more control over certain game settings. If you end up finding a group of players who like to play by the same rules as you, then you can always add them and invite them to other games in the future.
The social aspect is a very important part of any online risk game, and if you play Major Command risk you are given access to a wide range of social elements.
When it comes to actual gameplay, the Major Command game will follow a certain set of rules, even if certain options were picked out by the game host. There are three stages for players to act out each turn.
Firstly, the deployment stage allows players to place any troops they have available. The amount of troops you have depends on the number of territories in your control, captured regions, and command cards.
Once deployed, you can choose to assault other regions. If you’re a true strategist, you may be a little disappointed to hear that the combat on Major Command relies on dice rolls, and you’ll see assault similarly to the classic game of Risk. However, if you pay for the Commander subscription, you can play games where the element of luck has been removed.
Once again in line with risk, the last phase of your turn will allow you to reinforce your troops – you can move a set of troops from one territory to another. Don’t forget that you can read and write a Major Command Review at any time.
Gaming Experience.
Major Command risk is perhaps best for any Risk fans out there who want a little bit of a new experience – the gameplay is very similar to Risk, but there are elements where things are different. For example, there are unique command cards that replace the standard territory cards.
Whilst you can play risk at Major Command for free, there are certain paying benefits. The website has been up and running for quite some time now, and it is mostly kept going through player subscriptions and donations. There are no advertisements on Major Command, so this may be a great alternative for those that just can’t deal with the frequent ads on other strategy games like Warlight.
There is a nice, active community on Major Command that you can get involved with, and whether you click with the community or not is really going to make or break your experience on the website. Whilst it is fun to jump on and play a game here or there, you’ll be getting the whole experience by partaking in the forums, meeting other players online, and having a chat whilst playing games.
Major Command Youtube and Wiki
Major Command has a huge selection of Videos, far more than any other Risk website, and their Wiki is also amazing to go through. There are Tutorials for nearly every map as well as Strategy and Tips to help your game-play. You may think you are good at playing Risk at home with friends or against a computer, but it’s easy to get your ass kicked online before the first round has ended if you are not prepared! Take this advice seriously and come back to share your experience to others what is the best place and where to play Risk online!
And the Maps!
MajorCommand.com has the best looking, and best-designed MAPS to play Risk on. This is important not only for aesthetics, but also for gameplay. Aside from the Classic Risk Map, they have created a collection of perfectly balanced and well thought out maps that will keep gameplay fresh every time you start a game
Major Command Review – Summary
Major Command offers an online strategy game that is very close to the classic game Risk. Players can easily set up their own games and play with friends, or find others to play with online. The social aspects, great maps, and easy to use interface of Major Command are really where the website excels. You will definitely find yourself spending all your time here instead of other places that may be larger or more popular because of the great community and beautiful design.
Years of Fun
I have been playing on Majorcommand for close to 5 years now. I have seen the site progress and I’m glad I stuck around. There are a few technical issues every now and again which I hope will be fixed during this update but all in all the user interface is simple and cosmetically pleasing. The variety of maps and game play are amazing. If they can get those couple of glitches fixed with this update it will be a 10 in my opinion. Not bad for a free site.
Seriously Kickass Strategy Gaming
Major Command is a good website to Play Risk online for free! It has awesome maps and gameplay, everything you get from risk and a whole lot more! Plus it’s funny but the internet is a terrible place for interacting with people. There’s basically no chance that a person will be nice to you on the internet, but like someone in the Major Command community said, It’s like majorcommand.com is the Bermuda Triangle of the internet gaming world.
Major Command is the nicest group of gamers that you’re ever going to meet and play Risk online!
The only negative about Major Command is the game engine and the fact that it outgrew itself and eventually had too many people playing for the site to handle it. On top of that the person who first coded the site left the team.
Now though, Major Command changed to guard, got a new person to start deciphering the code that was left by the first coder. Now Marcos, the new gaming programmer is doing awesome work, and the site started moving in the right direction. It’s only a matter of time until it’s better than ever, with no lag/bugs you name it I have faith that it’ll be perfect.
I’m looking forward to the day that we switch over, but until then we sit and play the best damn strategy gaming site on the internet!
BeanZ
The only Risk site you’ll ever need
Play Risk online at MajorCommand.com and you will be completely pleased. The user interface at Major Command is easy to learn and the game maps are the best you can find. It is a testament to the addictiveness of this site that whenever I open my browser I am instantly compelled to check the site for turns or new forum posts. It’s been that way since I joined back in 2011. Sure, the site has had it’s ups and it’s downs over the years – some recurring bugs that I’m sure put off a few folk, but these days it is running really well under the new management. Most of the really annoying bugs have been fixed and the site is more stable than ever now.
I’ll second what has already been said about the community – it’s top notch. People are friendly, on the whole, and it makes a welcome change from the badlands of the rest of the internet. Even the staff are all volunteers, helping out simply because they love the site and want to see it flourish.
The maps are of a very high standard on the whole, some of them are true pieces of art. A policy of quality over quantity separates this site from some of it’s competitors. I do sometimes wish there were a few more though.
Overall, Major Command is a true gem of the internet and I will be enjoying it hopefully for many years to come. Seriously, if you’ve not tried it yet and you like risk then it’s a no brainier – you need to check it out!!
I am very happy with MC
I’ve been a member on MajorCommand since 2012, and I have enjoyed it immensely! It plays well, it has a great community. I’ve tried a few other Risk websites and haven’t been as happy with the experience, and for me MC is always going to be the thing I go to when bored.
ok
An ok risk site. Maps are good. Live games, not many players.
So You’re a Gamer?
If you’re reading this then you probably love the thrill of killing, maiming, beating or conquering things in your game of choice, probably against an AI game engine. Do you get tired of beating that computer opponent so easily? Well, what about playing against another human being or several at the same time? It’s so much better! I have always preferred the conquer games like Risk Online which offer head to head, real time or more casual timed turns, against real people with all their differences which no AI can imitate. Playing against live opponents gives you the chance to chat with other players in the game, especially useful when playing multi player team games (doubles, triples even 12 players versus another 12 players). Many sites where you can Play Risk Online may offer in game chat and forums which also provides the chance to pick up good tips and strategies to make you a better player. https://www.majorcommand.com/ is one such site of Risk Online and in my humble opinion the best out there. It offers all the above options in addition to an email function within the site. Another awesome feature is the unique Rank and Medals structure which really helps to gauge how well you’re doing against all other players within the site. If you like the idea of playing tournaments against the best players, you will not be disappointed and the rewards of winning tourneys are outstanding. By the way, did I mention that this is not your Dad’s Risk Game? This Online Risk Game offers 24 different games maps with more added all the time.
Perhaps best of all, you can play Risk Online Free immediately at no cost to you EVER. That’s right. Free forever. Of course, like most of the members, after you try it out and become hopelessly addicted (LOL) you will want to upgrade to a premium membership which offers more of the ‘bells and whistles’. Two different paid plans, $4.95US or $9.95US, offer several enhancements to the unpaid membership. Many members start with the unpaid version to give it a try and then upgrade within a week … it’s that good!
Sound like it’s for you? I have been a member since March 2016 and highly recommend it. With the free version, there is no financial commitment so its “risk free” if you will pardon the pun. So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and give it a shot. Tell them Redstorm sent you and good hunting!
Major problems don’t get solved
1) Having 1st turn means you’ve got a 62% chance of beating your opponent (in a 2 player game, against an equally experienced opponent)
2) You can’t quit a game that you’re obviously gonna lose so if you don’t spend another 5-15 minutes finishing this game to help your opponent cash their points, opponent is likely to complain, rate you dishonorable or even leave a negative comment on your profile. (Which in turn diminishes your chances in a multiplayer game)
These problems are being complained about by the community yet Major Command has remained the same during the four years I played so I’m giving them a rating of 1, to compensate for the undeserved 10’s :p
(That said, the maps are good to very good and I’m still playing, so I should give MC at least a 5.6/10)
3) Top players and their minions are luring random players (noobs) to join 12 vs 12 player games (which they can’t lose) in order to dominate the ranking list.
What would be your solution to the first turn problem? Actually I don’t think it’s a problem, since you have the same chance to be first. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I prefer 1 vs 1 games, so I’m sure I’m not getting into a trap where the other players are ‘buddies’ and they all attack me first. Or the #3 you mentioned. Other thing I do is try to join games when they are almost full, that way I can check who is playing. After a while you know which players are honorable and which players are not. MajorCommnad is not perfect, but so far is the best place to play Risk on line, IMO.
Do it
I joined the community in 2013 because I had a lot of time to kill at my new business. Now I don’t have that time really, but I still make time to come back and play because the community is so good. Past gamers welcomed my back with open arms, and new gamers put up with me!
This is a site for those who are serious about gaming, but also want to have fun.
I wouldn’t want to play online risk anywhere else
